Carol Moog,
PhD, is a licensed psychologist
with over 35 years of experience working with
children, adolescents and adults. Her private
practice is diverse, with a particular emphasis
on helping people with early attachment issues,
social anxiety disorders and Asperger Syndrome.
Dr. Moog's clinical orientation is relationship-based
and geared to facilitate the discovery of unique
personal resources, goal clarification and skill
development. Using a wide range of creative modalities,
she draws from her training and experience as
a theater improvisor/actor (Relationship Theater,
ImagineAct), professional blues and swing harmonica
player (Carol Moog Band; Tattar, Tucker and Moog),
and communications/ advertising consultant (Creative
Focus).
Now a clinical associate in psychiatry at the
University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine,
Dr. Moog is the clinical director of the Social
Learning Disorders Program and teaches the Social
Skills Seminar for adults. The seminar focuses
on improving understanding of nonverbal communication,
conversation skills, job interviewing/exploration,
and interpersonal relationships though applied
visual and verbal information, role-playing activities,
discussion and the utilization of social coaches.
Dr. Moog has been the psychologist at The Miquon
School since 1977 and, in partnership with theater
director David Bradley, is an artist-in-residence
at Green Tree School working with students on
the autism spectrum. As a consultant to the Social
Competency Program at the Center for Autism,
she designed and conducted acting groups for
youth with Asperger Syndrome.
Dr. Moog earned her BS in philosophy from Boston
University and her MS and PhD from the University
of Pennsylvania. Her earliest clinical work was
with inpatient populations at Haverford State
Hospital and Crozer-Chester Hospital, opportunities
which fostered in her a deep appreciation for
the therapeutic power of relational attunement.
Dr. Moog is the author of the William Morrow-published
book, Are They Selling Her Lips? Advertising
and Identity. In addition to contributing
the chapter Ad Images and the Stunting of
Sexuality in Images in Language, Media and
Mind, edited by Roy F. Fox, she has published

communications journals. Dr. Moog has been interviewed
