ImagineAct groups are based in the therapeutic
application of improvisational theater techniques with the
goals of helping young people with Asperger's and social
skills needs to:
1) develop relationship skills
2) gain experience
with the tools of acting
ImagineAct uses the context of specific
rule-based improvisational
activities to help young people with Asperger’s learn
and practice social skills. Groups are structured and sequenced,
moving from the more concrete to the more abstract, focusing
on body language, movement, facial expression, and tone of
voice as bridges to social and verbal interactions. Transforming
imagination into action, participants can explore spontaneous
responses and role-playing in a creative, accepting, safe,
fun environment.
This motivating combination of theater-based activities and
therapeutic perspective will help support other training
or therapy that participants might be receiving. In addition,
it will provide young people with an introduction to drama
that could inspire further interest. |
